  • To retain a captain, simply fill out an online captain request and an experience USCG licensed captain will email you.
  • Maximum group sizes: up to 11 on 39′ sailboats and 40′ power boats (plus a captain and crew member).

The Details, for those who want them…

Bareboat charters can have up to 11 people in your party on our Luxury Class sailboats plus a captain and crew member. On our Power Boats, your group can be up to 11 plus captain and crew member. We require a USCG licensed captain on every charter as well as a crew member (there is no additional cost) both for safety reasons, as well as to serve you and your guests and make for an even more wonderful experience. If you have your own, please contact us, but if not, retaining a captain (from a group of captains loosely called the CFN – Captains Freelance Network) is as simple as filling out a 30 second form online. One and only one captain from the CFN will email you. Their fees, as well as all other fees and taxes, are already included in the quote we provide. We can also provide a list of the same captains if you prefer to call them one by one instead of using the automated process.

The captains in the CFN work together by coordinating schedules, assigning captains for charters, and allocating tasks to handle the pre and post requirements of your bareboat charter (such as fueling, sanitation pump outs, washing, cleaning, inspections, documentation, etc.). All cleaning, prep, and putaway is done before and after your charter so you show up to a fully prepped boat, and leave without a thing to do when your charter is over – the perfect excursion. Since the CFN fees cannot be paid to us according to USCG regulations, your final billing (should you decide to use your credit card,and with your permission) will have a portion billed by Chicago Sailboat Charters for the rental of the vessel, and the remainder billed by the CFN for the fees. Your credit card number is never shared with anyone except the bank processing the charges (no member of the CFN will have access to your credit card).

If you have a US Coast Guard licensed captain in your group or that you would like to use who is part of a random drug test program, please have them contact us to provide credentials and arrange a checkout cruise. All fees (fueling, sanitation pump outs, washing, cleaning, inspections, documentation, etc.) will apply and all fee items will be completed by CSC staff.
